Summary: This book is about a boy named Arturo, who is looking forward spending his
summer playing ball, working a few shifts at his abuela's (grandmother)
restaurant and getting to know the new girl that just moved into his apartment
complex, Carmen. Everything was going well until a slick developer comes into the
neighborhood and tries to change it. Arturo refuses to let his family and
community go down without a fight. Along with Carmen’s help, Arturo discovers
the power of poetry and protest through untold family stories and the work of
Jose Marti. This book deals with the Hispanic
Culture and gentrification.
